John Diez is principal with Magellan Strategies and manages our office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. John has extensive experience in survey research, modeling, redistricting data and mapping technologies. John has worked with political data for the past 17 years. John is a former employee of the national polling firm Public Opinion Strategies, and the Republican National Committee (RNC). While John was with the RNC, he worked in the Redistricting Department assisting in the development and maintenance of the RNC’s Geographical Information System, which integrated census and political data into a mapping application used to facilitate redistricting, and eventually become the Director of Redistricting Technology. John also supplied the RNC’s expert witnesses with statistical analysis. Upon the completion of redistricting, he transferred to the Strategy Department where he became a Senior Data Analyst. In this capacity, he provided various campaigns with data products, such as targeting models, vote goals and precinct and jurisdictional maps.In 2006, he relocated from Washington DC to Baton Rouge to become the Executive Director of the 527 organization, The Louisiana Committee for a Republican Majority (LCRM). LCRM was a data driven organization focused on winning seats in the State House. While Executive Director, John personally fielded over 75 surveys on behalf of LCRM endorsed candidates. Using polling data to drive all decisions and allocate money was key to LCRM’s success. Under John’s direction, Republicans picked-up 8 seats, which had never been done before.

From 1995 to 2000, he was the Director of the Political Division of Southwest Computer Bureau. While working for the Political Division, he provided political data to candidates and campaigns, designed a voter information package, analyzed voting patterns, conducted public opinion polls, developed direct mail targets and “Get Out The Vote” plans, and provided redistricting and G.I.S. services to various local governments.

John is currently living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with his wife and 2 children.
